Yoplait Review and Giveaway

To start the new year off right, I (like many of you) have made a commitment to healthier living.  So that is why I was especially pleased that Yoplait asked me to review their new Yoplait Delights.  I am a big fan of yogurts, and have always been partial to the Yoplait brand.  I find that the taste and texture are more pleasing than many other brands.

In order to do this review, Yoplait provided me with a cool scented candle, an aromatherapy eye pillow, an insulated lunch tote and a coupon for a free pack of Yoplait Delights. They come in several flavors, and I chose the caramel creme.  The taste reminded me of one of my favorite desserts- flan!  The texture is thick and creamy. Plus, each serving is only 100 calories.  I am excited to try the other flavors as well.  For a 50¢ coupon, visit http://www.myblogspark.com/uc/main/c7a4/ospe.php3?SES=25ca5b047434348d272c1aacba061116

Yoplait is offering one reader a chance to win the same package I received with a scented candle, lunch tote, eye pillow, and coupon for free Yoplait Delights. I’ll make it very simple to win:  Just visit Yoplait’s website http://yoplait.com/products/yoplait-delights-yogurt and tell me which flavor you would like to try. One entry per person, please. US residents only.  The giveaway ends  Monday, January 17th at 11:59 pm central time. One winner will be chosen at random.  Good luck!

(I was provided a complimentary gift pack in order to do this review. All opinions expressed are my own.)

Dyson DC07 Animal

Most people by now have heard of the Dyson brand vacuums. I bought mine in 2005, and I was inspired to write a review because of a broken latch on the bin. I bet you’re thinking that I must be disappointed about that, but actually I’m not.

The latch that broke is the first and only problem that I’ve had with my Dyson in 5 1/2 years. When they claim it is the one vacuum to never lose suction, I really believe that based on my experience.  In fact, the broken latch is temporarily held in place with duct tape and the machine operates just fine.

Let me tell you the many reasons I am in love with my Dyson.

  1. It is easy to use and lightweight.
  2. It’s rather quiet compared to other vacuums.
  3. It cleans bare floors better than any other vacuum I’ve had.
  4. The stair tool is the best thing for picking up dog hair!
  5. It’s purple and cute.
  6. It works just as well today as the first day I got it.
  7. It has a lifetime HEPA filter and helps keep allergies and asthma under control.
  8. It comes with a 5 year warranty. I think most vacuums are about 1 year. Of course, mine happened to be about 6 months outside of the warranty when the latch broke. 😦

Reasons why the Dyson might not be right for you:

  1. The price- the initial investment is about $500 depending on the model.
  2. Some people do not like bagless vacuums and many people with asthma would not be able to handle emptying the bin themselves.

So even though I am frustrated by my problem with the Dyson, it has served me well for over 5 years and shows no sign of any problem with the motor or suction. I see on their website there is a replacement unit for the cyclone assembly for $75, which is the part that houses my broken latch. However, I don’t know if there is a replacement part only for the latch itself. I many have to inquire about that.  So right now, we are getting by with our duct tape repair.  (I am secretly trying to convince my fiance to upgrade to a new Dyson, but so far he’s not going for it).  In his defense, it is totally unnecessary to upgrade when our old one works just fine.  Time will tell who will win this battle! 🙂

Review- OPI nail color and fun giveaway!

I have used OPI nail polish for years, and I will never again use another brand. It goes on so smooth. I don’t know whether it’s the brush or the actual polish itself that makes it so good- probably a combination of the two. It looks fabulous for several days on natural nails, and even longer on fake nails.  And one of the my favorite things about OPI? The polish color names! I swear, sometimes I buy them just because I’m so tickled by the name, like “I Pink I Love You” , “Suzi Sells Sushi by the Seashore”, or “I’m Fondue of You”.

With this nail polish, I can give myself a manicure that looks nearly as good as a professional one- at a fraction of the price. That’s why, in order to get my blog off and running- I want to give one reader an at- home manicure kit. It will consist of one Beauticontrol Show of Hands Instant Manicure scrub, one Beauticontrol Extreme Repair lotion and one full size OPI nail color (chosen by me).  All you have to do to enter is either tell me why you need a manicure or tell me your favorite OPI nail color. One entry per person, US residents only. Please leave your email so that I can contact you in case of a win! Offer ends August 10th, 2010 at 11:59pm central time. Winner will be chosen through Random.org and notified by email.

Review- Cricut Expressions

In case you don’t already know, the Cricut is a home die-cutting machine. I have really wanted one of these for a while now, but my boyfriend always said no. He was right, we really couldn’t justify the cost. But, since we got engaged and are planning many DIY projects for the wedding, he finally agreed that it would be worth it.

I strongly recommend actually reading the instructions before trying to play with the machine. This will save you some headaches and frustration. There is also a bit of a learning curve here. It will take some time and experimenting before you can gauge the speed and pressure settings for each type of paper.

Basically what you do is load a design cartridge into the machine. Then place the paper onto the cricut mat and load into the machine. Select a design with the keypad, and press cut. The machine will then do the rest!

Pros:

Can cut a variety of paper thicknesses.

Can cut intricate designs.

You can adjust the size, speed and pressure of the cuts easily.

Much easier than cutting by hand!

Cons:

The machine is pricey.

You must buy separate design cartridges- also pricey.

Takes some practice to get the hang of using it.

Need to buy replacement blades and cutting mats.

Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I wish the cartridges were not so expensive.  However, I do believe this will save us time and money with our wedding projects to come.

First review- Shark Steam Mop 3502

I have a pretty serious problem with my ceramic tile. It is textured, meaning that all the dirt and grime can easily find its way down into the little crevices. This drives me nuts, because no ordinary mop or swiffer can get into those grooves to adequately clean it. That leaves me scrubbing on my hands and knees. That brings me to my latest purchase- the Shark Steam Mop #3502.

I think I bought it for slightly over $100. It was quick to put together and very easy to use. You just fill the reservoir with hot water and wait a few seconds for the steam action to work, then get mopping. The handle pumps the steam out as you move it back and forth.  The one thing I noticed right away is that it is a bit heavy compared to a regular mop. I also wasn’t sure it was doing anything, because I couldn’t see the water streaks on the floor like when you mop. But I flipped the pad over and saw streaks of dirt, so I knew it was working.

Earlier in the day, I had vacuumed and scrubbed the floor on my hands and knees. But the Shark was picking up massive amounts of filth. I was surprised how much dirt was still let on the floor after I had cleaned it. Overall, I am pretty happy with my purchase. It didn’t get all the worst spots of ground in dirt, but it did a far better job than any traditional mop. Plus, it saved me about an hour or more of manually scrubbing the tiles. One thing I love is the microfiber cleaning cloths it uses. It picked up so much stray dog hair! And they’re machine washable, so I do not need to be constantly buying replacements. I did use have to use both of them the first time I cleaned the kitchen though!

Overall, I will give the Shark Steam Mop 3.5 out of 5 stars.
